Leonardo da Vinci developed concepts for a human powered flying machine late in the 15th century. Based on his drawings from the Codex Atlanticus, da Vinci's Ornithopter is one of his most iconic designs.
This model is a realistic scaled representation of those designs and incorporates a bevel gear to make a model with flapping wings and a pilot with moving legs and arms. With all components included, kids can build an Ornithopter at home. It moves beautifully, encourages kids to explore mechanics and looks great.
Assembled from pre-cut and pre-drilled wooden pieces.
On display at the Leonardo da Vinci museum in Rome.
